La ville comme territoire: Mexico dans "Declaración de odio" et "Declaración de amor" d´Efraín Huerta

This article will focus on the image of the city in the works of Mexican poet Efraín Huerta (1914-1982), particularly in two poems from the collection Los hombres del alba, published in 1944. These two poems, ¿A Declaration of Love¿ and ¿A Declaration of Hatred¿, depicted the Mexican capital city under a new light and the remarkable way in which the poet dealt with urban space enabled him to acquire national fame, but also to be labelled as ¿the poet of the city¿ by the critics. Mexico City, as represented in these poems, constitutes a poetic motif: the poet endeavours to grasp the whole extent of a city in full expansion through its inhabitants. The city is obviously used as a spatial frame in which poetic speech is inserted, but such is its extent in these poems that this function as a poetic space is soon transcended. From then on, it will be necessary to try and redefine the role of urban space in those texts and confront it to the notion of territory, borrowed from human geography, to grasp its actual role as set by the poet.El presente artículo se centrará en la imagen de la ciudad en la obra del poeta mexicano Efraín Huerta (1914-1982), deteniéndose en particular en dos poemas sacados del poemario Los hombres del alba, publicado en 1944. Esos poemas, « Declaración de odio » y « Declaración de amor », pintan la capital mexicana de manera inédita para la época. Gracias a ese tratamiento singular del espacio urbano, Efraín Huerta gozó de una fama nacional y recibió, por parte de la crítica, la etiqueta de « Poeta de la Ciudad». La ciudad de México, tal y como está presentada en esos dos poemas, constituye un verdadero motivo poético. Mediante sus habitantes, el poeta trata de captar la amplitud de una ciudad en pleno crecimiento. Obviamente, ésta funciona como un marco espacial en el cual se alza la voz poética pero, su amplitud es tan grande que esa función de espacio poético está rápidamente sobrepasada. Entonces, será necesario detenerse en la función del espacio urbano en esos dos poemas y confrontarla con la noción de territorio, tal y como la define la geografía humana
